About
I have always been a furniture maker and work and create with wood in my own shop. I was raised in weatern New York state, now live in Chattanooga, TN- The Scenic City- My shop is near the foot of lookout moutain. Antique restorations are a large part of my work, a lot of my new furniture is influenced by my experience with antique furniture. The evidence left by earlier furniture makers is very instructive and helpful, I have used that knowledge for most things I do. Some of my re-claimed pine pieces are made exactly the way earlier ones, mostly mortice and tenon, dove tails, pegs, trunnels, and no metal. A few modern things I use are modern hardware(hinges, locks) and modern finishes for durability. My creative process is a little different- I envision the finished piece and remove everything that doesn't look like that. Sometimes driven by the materials and sometimes by desire. From the simplest piece to the most intricate carving, everything has been a work of passion for me. Once in a while I do something completely different.
